Future new versions.
« on: February 16, 2005, 05:23:07 AM »
I have recently changed the virus scanner from one that I was completely happy with (AVG 6.0) to the upgraded new vers. (AVG 7.0) only to have to give it up as a bad joke because of the probs. that are associated with it.
I am now trying the AVAST 4.5, my question is this, are any future versions of AVAST going to be thoroughly tested and not to be released until they are reasonably bug free before the existing version is discontinued?

I should say - no one is perfect, but I can say that Alwil team is trying to do their best and they're doing it.  All avast version are tested throughly, also with users help, as the can to try Beta and to report to team if something is not OK. Be sure, it's the best free protection, as i upgraded from avg too, but already log time ago I've done it.

Alwil releases beta version of the application.
They make it available for users of this board.
(See the BETA section here)

Only after they (theirselfs) and we (as users here) have tested the application, and the problems (if there are any) are taken out, a 'final' version will be released to the public.

If you want to participate to the beta testing or not, is fully up to you.
My experience is that the beta versions are working.
Sure, there can be a little problem with them, but that is why they are beta and not final.

As I said before. read the BETA section on this board.
It will give you a pretty good idea on how Alwil deals with beta versions.

No need to reinstall. It will update automaticly.
It only will require a reboot, but that is due to Windows and not Avast.
That's why I use (amongst other reasons ofcourse) Avast ;)

I'm using a beta version (build 593) and it seems to be working just as well as the current official release. The only problem that I have had is the ashServe crash on shutdown but that is actively being looked into.
