Virus Cleaner
« on: February 16, 2005, 07:31:12 PM »
Isn't it time for an update for the virus cleaner?

Since version 1.0.206 (20 Jan 2005) there have been several new variants of Beagle and Mydoom and version 1.0.206 cannot detect these. This version of the virus cleaner is somewhat out of date.

An updated release would be greatly appreciated.  :-\

Surprise !!!!!

Earlier today a new vps was released. 507-0

And there have been multiple releases after 20 januari
See here.

Where did you get 1.0.206 from?
That isn't a vps version.

Virus Cleaner, Eddie, not the VPS!

xistenz, I agree, we should update it. The apology is obvious though - most of the team have been busy with the upcoming 4.6... :)

Cheers

Eddy, I'm not talking about the VPS updates, but rather the stand-alone virus cleaner.

Vlk, I understand that you have been busy with the new version of avast!, but the casual user may not be so understanding.  ;D

Guess what.
Woke up this morning and thought there was a burglar at my door.
Turned out it was my brain begging me to allow it to come back ;D

But seriously.
If you start the cleaner and click on the link to Avast's home page it opens in IE.
I would like to see it opened in the default browser.

I think its time to nag about the virus cleaner again. Its almost three months out of date!!!  :o

And with all the new Mytob and Beagle variants around, don't you think its time to update it again?

There are so many mytob (and also beagle) variants that it's unlikely that the Cleaner will ever cover them.

I admit that the Virus Cleaner suffers from a serious "lack of time for updates", but - the Cleaner was meant as a simple tool to clean very common infections. I would say that recently, there are many various infections, but not very big ones. Various virus statistics show that the most popular today's worms are still the old beasts - Netsky, Zafi, ...
