Hi!

I have some non-Avast related question, I hope someone could help me.

I recently found out about router security (NAT) and found out that a computer was connected directly to the modem and wasn't behind NAT. I then put a router in between the modem and the PC and now it's behind NAT (as seen with the ipconfig command). Was that computer in a great danger before? How can I see if something infiltrated it?

Other thing I saw was that the router's password was set as default (factory) one and I changed it now. How dangerous was having the default password and how can I see if someone broke in and chnaged the router settings?

the ISP modem box often have a default firewall. ask your ISP for info

what box modem do you have....Name number.....maybe google will give you some info?

I used the http://amibehindnat.com/ site and also checked manually with the ipconfig command and the computer's IP address didn't start with 192.168 while it was connected directly to the modem. When I connected a router to the modem and then the computer to the router the http://amibehindnat.com/ reported it was behind NAT and the IP address chenged to 192.168.x.x. Was that computer in great danger before? How do I check for possible infiltrations? What about the router password? Thanx!

But jokes aside. Yes you should secure that router and change the default password. Also only use services you use.
Your computer address should resolve to 127.0.0.1 which is the local address...

Yes the computer was more vulnerable when it was not going through the router but if you're not having any problems, I wouldn't worry too much. Just run a full scan with Avast and also with Malwarebytes. If nothing bad is found, I would say it's 99.999% certain that you're okay. My systems also resolve to a 192.168.2.xxx  IP. On some routers, the 2 will be a 1.

I did exactly that and all seems just fine. Changed the router password too. The system now resolves to 192.168.1.xxx. If there's not other indicator I could check about the infiltration I'll just leave it all be. Thank you all!
