What version of Avast for Domain Controllers?
« on: February 06, 2013, 09:46:44 AM »
Hi,

We recently updated our 2008 r2 domain controllers and found they wouldn't get to the Ctrl-Alt-Del screen until we uninstalled Avast while in safe mode. We have a AEA server and Avast Endpoint suite 7. Should we be using this version on DC's/servers?
Also are there any guidelines for what shields should/shouldn't be enabled on servers?

We do have the file server version but that's just on the file servers   :)

Regards

wpn

if you deployed via the AEA server to the DC then the installation automaticly choose the right files to install.

There are no guides on which server shuold be using which shields.
But its save to say that P2P shields for example wont be used (hopefully ur not p2p downloading on your servers) and can be ommited from the installation.
Same goes for client side EMAIL shield

AVAST Software recommended, for a server, disable: P2P, IM, Email and Network Shields.

Really you recommend turning off all those functions?

Why? Please explain :) I can understand IM and P2P - we aren't using them but network and e-mail sheilds also?

Why the Network Shield more specifically, I can stop checking mail from my server...

Dear @joealbergo,

we are talking about the enabled shields for a server.

On a dedicated server: files or applications; should not have users using the server as a desktop, browsing, reading emails or IM.

This is the reason why it is recommended to disable P2P, IM and Email Shields.

In server with a high network use/traffic, it's recommended to disable the Network Shield to increase the performance of the server.
