That was short-lived :(  The resolution comes & goes I guess that's it! Not much I can do at this point, just have to live with it, I suppose.

Janice

I resolved that issue, I did find where to make the text bigger and so I removed that from the post!  Wish I could resolve the resolution issue, I'll keep working on it.  I guess my PC is too old for Windows 8 :'(   Oh well, for sure  there are worse things out there than this!!

Cheers,
Janice

So would this mean getting a new motherboard?  I'm out of my league here.  I probably could do this once I know what it is I have to buy.

You know when thinking about when this started it was (to the best of my recollection, which doesn't count for much these days, it sucks getting old, lol) after I installed some windows updates.  Should I  restore my computer to prior to these updates and see if that is, in fact, the cause.  Actually updating nvidia card should take care of that issue I would think?

I believe my video card is in my motherboard so would I have to purchase both a motherboard and video card?

Going back to a prior restore point isn't always a good move and brings with it some other possible problems.
avast! for one doesn't like system restore and may need a clean install after a restore.
Wait for someone with more hardware knowledge than I to step in.
I don't know if you can add a separate video card and simply disable the built in one.
Patience is a virtue and I know I'm one of those that possesses very little of that but, please,
be patient. :)

If it is a desktop then fitting a new card is quite easy.. Even I can do that  :D

All you need to do is determine the type of card slots available

If you let me know the manufacturer then I should be able to find the data

Are we back to the nic card?  Anyway see the screen shots below as I'm not sure what I'm to look at.  I believe I have covered all the bases, lol!

What essexboy is looking for has to do with the hardware slot availability in your computer.
Maybe the following will help you answer that question more easily:

Hi,

I should have been more explicit when referring to my nic card.  I had another thread running http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=108522.150 and this was info I had to post there in reference to the number of slots I have on my motherboard:  Reply 162

OK that has 2xPCI E and 1PCI slots
Now having said all that is this what you are referring to or am I completely out to lunch on this??

Cheers,
Janice

Nope that's it.. I just couldn't find the post  :-[

Here is a fairly cheap one with 1Gb of RAM http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7373215&CatId=1558 which should be OK for general use, not high end gaming

And destructions are here http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php?topic=40301.0

Thanks, that looks easy enough, I think.  Back when I had the other problem presumebly with the nic card I was told that I didn't have to go this route I could just buy a universal card (not sure what to call it), and plug it into a usb port on my computer and problem solved.  This info came from one of the techies at Future Shop my local computer store. It runs for about $30.00.  Does this sound right.  Anyway I can take this info with me when I go to the  computer store to make sure I get the right part.

Cheers,
Janice
