I voted it's rubbish... (referring to the GUI).  I have no idea why everyone is doing the "windows 8" look-a-like contest.  Big childish blocks that look like it belongs in a baby's play pen.

I love Avast and have been using it for over 5 years, the guts and glory have always been robust but this 2013 windows 8 look makes me want to barf!

therealdizzy, That's exactly my position!!!
So use the security tab view if you don't like the home tab ::) quite frankly I don't know what the problem is, the only time I open and look at the interface is when I'm doing a screen shot for someone here on the forum so essentially it shouldn't really matter what it looks like as long as it is serving it's purpose "which it does"

Well, aesthetics is dominant in the society we live in these days, and this is why we see so many complains about the look.  I myself appreciate avast for the strength and lightness.

Anyone who chooses their protection for it's looks, obviously doesn't have a clue what the object of that protection is all about.  :o

hi folks,

just wanted to add my two cents. using avast8 free in conjunction with online armor free firewall on 5+ year old system which runs a little slow to start with, but i see hardly any impact with avast8. great protection too, no infections yet. great product all in all, but i find UI home page pretty much useless. would prefer use security page for home. i will still upgrade to ais as soon as i can afford it. also looking to version 9 improvements i have read about in this and other forums.

thanks

I don't like it.  Something is not right. Have been using Avast free home edition for 10 years across various windows systems. On XP service pack 3 system w/2GB RAM, AvastSvc.exe randomly uses 98% of CPU. This is unacceptable. Unfortunately I must find another program that does not use all my resources. Avast has been my recommended "go to" for so long I hate to switch. :-\

Care to make a different topic in the forums and get your issues solved rather than just switching to other AV ::)

Avast protects close to 200 Million users and they cant make a perfect product that will work on each of those systems with different configurations but avast team still try hard, but you need to cooperate to make avast better.

If you fix the afd issue that occurs after installation and also the cant flush registry hive issue, then I will love it, but, update after update, its the same, and it is avast that causes these 2 issues, they go away when avast isn't installed, that's if your lucky enough that the uninstallation doesn't break and corrupt the networking after avast is removed, sometimes afd stays broke/corrupted after avast is removed, this as happened on windows 7 64bit, and now its happening on windows 8 64bit, ancillary function driver breaks, also avast does something to the registry as it cant be flushed.I bet if you people with avast premier or security look in the event logs you will see those 2 errors that never get resolved. They occur on a clean install of w7 and w8 so its not 3rd party conflicts. The AFD error really need resolving as sometimes the whole network is completely bust after removal of avast, all the network drivers have yellow triangles next to them, only way to resolve is a clean install, its not a minor error, its major. Sorry for my rant, its just that these 2 errors have been around for as long as I can remember, they never get resolved.

I've been an Avast user for years and appreciate the program. It's always served me well. Unfortunately, V8 is incredibly cpu intensive on my machine. It's interfering with my audio programs and giving me audio dropouts due to latency. Honestly, I no longer really need antivirus software on this machine as its rarely, if ever used for anything other than production. The internet connection is always disabled and I only install applications from trusted developers. Again, Avast has been very good to me, but the new version doesn't play very well with the essential applications I need.
