I run Windows XP SP3 and use Avast free 8.0.1489 with Agnitum Outpost Firewall Pro 8.1 and EMET 4.0.

I am delighted with Avast 8, have had no problems with it and system performance is excellent for an ancient AMD Athlon XP 3000+ based system.  It appears effective as a defence.  I do not use the Updater as I have other trusted arrangements.  I like to make manual choices in the area of managing software updates.

I was glad to find that the Windows 8 Metro inspired GUI is easy to navigate and to read.

Hope you keep Avast available for XP users after April 2014.  EMET 4.0 is especially valuable as a last line of defence but one which I do not wish to solely rely on.

Avast Email Shield is very capable and the SSL feature is great and allows me to use Virgin email.

I cannot recommend Avast 8 highly enough.

Hi Hake,
Nice combination of protection. Yes, EMET 4.0 is really nice. I just want to mention that EMET is kind of trial and error while setting up processes and can sometimes break things if not set up correctly.

For instance, adding Google Chrome using EMET defaults causes all my Chrome add-ons to crash. To keep this from happening, SEHOP needs to be unticked. This is what I mean by trial and error.

Great tool though. I wouldn't do without it.

It would seem a program called comodo programs manager was causing an issue with avast 8 at boot up.Removal of the comodo program seems to have resolved it.

I believe I mentioned a long time ago that the Dragon was probably interfering with avast. Guess I was right.

Yes you are quite right i did blame avast and i was wrong to do so.
It seems the comodo programs manager is not being supported anymore,,comodo does have a habit of creating software and then abandoning it months down the line.

The abandonment usually happens after the promises made within the program can not be fulfilled.
Something I've personally experienced and when complaining about it, felt the wrath or Mileah.  >:( ;D

Comodo Internet Security is a great FREE security suite. But it is best to use the entire suite alone. When you start combining security software you are bound to get conflicts. I myself might switch to CIS 6.2 for haha's. Avast is probably the best FREE antivirus on the market. People complain about this and complain about that. Well go ahead and try Avira, AVG, Panda Cloud and Bitdefender Free. You will find Avast superior to all of them. AVG installs "AVG search" and hijacks your Google searches. Even after uninstalling it your default search engine is AVG. AVG Free also runs 6-8 processes adding up to about 25-30MB. Avast runs 2 processes adding up to about 8-10MB.

I am very satisfied with avast 8 performance and overall looks.
I was having some bizarre problems with it before but it all seems to have ironed out very nicely.

Nothing to complain about and its free..
Bravo avast team.

I voted rubbish.

I have to say I've no idea what it's actually like because it bricked my PC. Well, it reduced it to the black screen / pointer. Very minimalist - too much so for my taste.

So far no sign of a fix from Avast. GIVE ME A BOOTABLE FIX. Or reimburse me for the time and hassle completely reinstalling my entire setup?

Whoever "tested" the release might like to spend some time coming up with a fix. SOON.
