AOL/AdSubtract Pro/WebShield Config?
« on: March 01, 2005, 03:01:00 PM »
Hi,
  I'm a new user of Avast and like it a lot. How do I configure Web Shield to work with Win98, AdSubtract Pro 2.55, and AOL 7.0? Thanks for your help.

I think the default configuration will work...
Do you use a proxy filter to connect the Internet? What is AdSubtract Pro?

AdSubtract acts as a local proxy to filter popups, sounds, referrers, etc. I've tried the default and a couple of other settings but it still lets the eicar test files download without any warning. The Web Shield Scanned and Infected Count are both 0.

Firstly, you must describe your configuration. Than we can find out a place where to inject webshield.

The proxy page in AdSubtract says "Use an AOL proxy".
AOL proxy: www.proxy.aol.com     Port: 11523
Defaults: www.proxy.aol.com                 11523
Listening TCP port                                    3124

I have Avast proxy settings set to Auto Detect

I apologize for the long delay between replies but I work a 12 hour shift. In IE 6.0 it says to use proxy server HTTP AdSubtract port 3124.

Edit avast4.ini (in c:\program files\alwil software\avast4\data\avast4.ini),
find the section [WebScanner] and add these lines

[WebScanner]
UpstreamProxyHost=127.0.0.1
UpstreamProxyPort=3124

Restart the WebShield provider. (terminate and then start).

Then setup Internet Explorer to use webshield as a proxy server: localhost, port: 12080

Lukas.
