Avast 8 Video Issues
« on: March 02, 2013, 05:52:19 AM »
System Specs:
Windows 7 64 Bit
Core i5 2.6 GHz
ATI 5700 HD Series

So after upgrading to Avast 8 I had a number of issues. To start, I was unable to view any Flash videos in any browser. All the videos were just green but still played sound. This happened in Firefox, Opera and IE - 64 and 32 Bit. In addition, I was no longer able to play any .MP4 files in Windows Media Player - These files would play fine in VLC however. I was able to play Flash videos after disabling Hardware Acceleration, but I was unable to play .MP4 videos at all. I ended up doing a System Restore back to before I installed Avast 8 and now everything is back to normal with no problems after installing the latest Avast 7 version (I should have just tried uninstalling it first but for some reason it didn't cross my mind until after the restore).

While having these issues I tried updating to the latest version of ATI Catalyst, updated to the latest version of Flash and restarted the computer with no luck. I've never had this kind of problem with any software I've ever installed... a little odd I must say.

Thanks that fixed my issues of Windows Media Player (12.0.7601.17514 and running on Win7 x64 SP1) playing 80% of my mp4's with nothing but a black screen (only audio was working).  Replacing that file made them instantly play again.

Why is avast messing with video playback anyway?  Fix please Devs...
