New user Shields question please
« on: March 08, 2013, 12:46:58 PM »
Hello everybody I have just joined the forum after downloading Avast Free on my XP pro machine, and I'm still learning all about this great a/v program.

I notice that there is a Script Shield active, and I wonder if that means I can disable my "NoScript" Firefox add on which is a nuicence asking for permissions every time a new site is accessed.

Regards Bizet.

I would keep NoScript, but it's your decision. ;)

I would second that, there is no conflict and it doesn't hurt, certainly not performance wise for me.

NoScript doesn't ask permission for me, what do you mean by that ?
You get the No-Entry symbol over the NoScript icon, but it doesn't pop-up asking.

Hello DavidR, my NoScript has always since stating it about 9 years ago popped up a long list of options after clicking on a previously unused site, and very often if there are multiple scripts I have to give further permissions or refusals.

I only get a list of scripts for that and associated sites if I hover over the NoScript icon, do you have this option checked in the NoScript Options > Notifications screen ?

Normally I only give the site I'm visiting permission or known associated content.

You're welcome, now it should be a little quieter, so to speak. Many sites that you visit are fine without making any allowances, as I said I generally only allow the site I'm visiting. After that if there are any obvious holes in the content of the page, it may be retrieving data from another site, like a content delivery network (usually has cdn in the domain name).
