A happy Easter to all of you!
« on: March 30, 2013, 06:29:07 PM »
Soon upon us. Enjoy your Easter brunch eggs.
Hope this also will bring us some milder temperatures
(now only 2 degrees Centigrades as I watch on my desktop)

Even though we do not wish happiness during Holy Week here in South America because it is Jesus Christ's passion and death, I wish you Happy Easter anyways.

Most people here beside going to church and religion processions, they like to go to the beach and barbecue some chicken or fish. YES the beach. It is like 32° C right now.

Happy Easter everybody.

Is it Easter, they have been selling Easter eggs for months already, seems like the reason behind Easter has been lost and now very commercial ;D
Yes it has been trying to snow here just short flurries, but freezing here also.

Happy Easter.

You've never heard of the Easter Bunny ?

Easter Bunny
Rabbits have been associated with springtime since ancient times. It is believed that the Anglo-Saxon Goddess of Spring, Eostre had a hare as her companion. The hare symbolises fertility and rebirth. Later Christians changed the symbol of the hare to the Easter bunny.

The tradition is that the Easter bunny leaves Easter eggs on Easter Sunday. Parents hide eggs in the garden and the children go on an egg hunt to find them.

@Pondus,

Well that comes from Gaelic mystical tradition- the bunny was actually a transformed chicken and he never forgot he should lay eggs in the first place..
That is why he is carrying these around in a basket and hiding them in the garden. All to do with the old fertility rites, you know...
The old goddess of that festival was Ostara and she gave her name to Easter.
As you can see from the attached image modern bunnies rather will have some energy drink now,

Yeah Europe and the USA got its Bunny and egg hunting tradition and others too:
http://inthecapital.com/2013/03/30/the-worlds-8-strangest-easter-traditions/

It is very religious about what it means down here in South America:
http://gosouthamerica.about.com/od/culfiestas/a/SemSantaSA.htm

Of course no everybody is that faithful, and they end up in the beach. It has been a beautiful week to hit the beach. Thank God ;)

Hi  iroc9555,

Thank you for reporting.
Easter is of course a major Christian festivity, "Alleluja".
But underneath the celebration of the resurrection, there are old layers of pagan folklore to be found.
The egg and hare (bunny) are symbols from the times of the Goddess Ostara.
Right from the days when she was still named Ishtar (Babylon)
up to the days of the old Celts and pagan Germanic tribes,
that were celebrating nature's awakening after a rigid winter period
(not quite finished here in North-Western Europe - 31st of March and cold as winter).

Occasionally Easter coincides with Jewish Pesach Festival commemorating Exodus.
So it is all about "renewal" in some form or other...
Enjoy your Easter days...
remember this time the second day is now also April Fools' day -
April 1st, what a coincidence!
