Both ad pop-ups and web page redirecting
« on: April 11, 2013, 03:24:12 AM »
Running a Gateway Vista 64 bit/ Intel Q6600 quad core/ 6gb RAM
Been having issues with pop-up ads bottom right and "chitka" bottom left as well as misrouted links in Firefox (have IE but don't use)
Purchased Avast and applied fixes from Windows

Partially fixed pop-ups in bottom right (windows sometimes still appear but no text)

Installed Trojan Killer, found and removed 10 items of malware.

Still have issues with "chitka" and redirecting links.

Followed your instructions from "Topic: Logs to assist in cleaning malware"

Ran MBAM as advised from another post and that log is attached.

Ran ADW and the logs attached.

Still the same issues.

Ran OTL and those logs are attached (didn't hit run fix). Extras to follow.

That's as far as I've got.

Please download zoek.exe and save it to your desktop.

  • Close any open browsers.
  •   Temporarily disable your AntiVirus program. (If necessary)
    If you are unsure how to do this please read this or this Instruction.

  • Double click on zoek.exe to run the tool .
    Please wait while the tool does not start...

  • Copy the text present inside the code box below and paste it into the large window in the zoek tool:
Code: [Select]

resetIEproxy;

filesrcm;
startupall;
resethosts;

  • Click on Run script button
    Please wait until a logreport will open (this can be after reboot)

  • Save notepad to your Desktop and attach here zoek-results.log

    Note: It will also create a log in the C:\ directory named "zoek-results.log"

> Check USB storage devices / removable drives

Download MCShield from one of the following links:

Recommendation to under General and Scanner tab you click on Defaults button to choose recommended options.

Attach here -> AllScans.txt

Explanation: USB storage devices are all the USB devices that get their own partition letter at connecting to the PC,
e.g. flash drives (thumb/pen drives, USB sticks), external HDDs, MP3/MP4 players, digital cameras,

Hi,

Please download fresh zoek.exe tool and delete old one.
Re-run zoek.exe as you did before but use ( paste ) this script;

Code: [Select]
IGNYUOK;a
IGNYUOK;z
C:\$RECYCLE.BIN\S-1-5-21-463463739-3983024456-406486669-1000\$IGNYUOK.exe;f
C:\$RECYCLE.BIN\S-1-5-21-463463739-3983024456-406486669-1000\$RGNYUOK.exe;f
C:\Users\DANIEL~1.WIL\AppData\Local\Temp\tmpF93A.exe;f
C:\Users\daniel.wilke\AppData\Local\Temp\tmpF93A.exe;f
resethosts;
autoclean;

Attach here fresh zoek-results.txt log.

*****************************

Re-run OTL.exe.

  • Copy and paste the following text written inside of the quote box into the Custom Scans/Fixes box.

Code: [Select]

:commands
[resethosts]
[emptytemp]

  • Then click the Run Fix button at the top.
  • Let the program run unhindered; it will reboot the system when it is done and open notepad with logreport. Attach here that logreport.

Ok ran zoek and OTL and logs attached.

Note: I've downloaded zoek 6 times now and every time I try to run it I get the same dialogue box

AN ERROR HAS OCCURRED IN THE SCRIPT ON THIS PAGE
Line: 61
Char: 1
Error: Provider load failure
Code:0
URL: file:///C:/daniel~/.wil/AP:Data/local/temp/zoek.hta

I tell it to continue running script and paste in the code you gave me and nothing happens until I try to close it (after 30 minutes) and then it tells me its running and starts to execute. It does after this give me a message to reboot and produces the log.

Ok ran Combo fix and log attached.

Question: Should I have disabled MBAM before I ran it? The instructions only said disable Avast so that's all I did.

Ok Magna. I really think there is something wrong with zoek.exe program. I downloaded yet again and exactly the same thing thing happened when I tried to run it,

This time at least it gave me a log without having to reboot.

Attached are the logs from JRT and zoek. I'll run the MBAM rootkit next and post.

There's nothing wrong with zoek, but your system for to me unknown reasons zoek refuses (fails) to load some of his files and to execute them.  :-\
Porhaps active AntiVirus / Firewall ?

Btw...

I know, CF has done what it was supposed to.  :)
We will remove used tools now,

It is necessary to uninstall ComboFix :
  • Click Start (or ) then Run.

    On Windows7 or Vista you may use Start Search field if Run is not available.

  • In the line of text type in (Copy) the following:
Code: [Select]
ComboFix /Uninstall
    Note that there is a space between " ComboFix " and " /Uninstall " .

    • then click OK (or press Enter ).
    Wait for the uninstall process is complete.

    -----------------------------------------

    > Re-run OTL and click on CleanUp! button.

    You will be asked to reboot the machine to finish the cleanup process, choose Yes.
    After the reboot all the tools we used should be gone.
    Note: Some more recently created tools may not yet be removed by OTL. Feel free to manually delete any tools it leaves behind.

    -----------------------------------------

    - Delete Malwarebytes AntiRootkit (drag&drop folder to recycle bin )
    - Delete zoek.exe tool ( same as MBAR, just drug&drop to recycle )

    -----------------------------------------

    I recommended to keep Malwarebytes AntiMalware use MCShield if you will.
    You may download MCShield from one of the following links:

    MyCity -  Official download link
    Softpedija - Mirror download link

    It will prevent infection by computer via USB flash drive, mobile phone or any other memory card.
    And not only will prevent infection, but it will immediately clean flash drive, memory card or external HDD.
