How to check which web sites users are trying to access
« on: May 24, 2013, 07:04:58 AM »
Hi,

We have Avast end point protection suite plus and we have blocked youtube, facebook etc to the users but they are trying to get into different websites in which they can access vedios, is there a way so that I check from the server or from my machine which web sites they are trying to access without going to their machines. We all are using Windows OS.

Offline .: Mac :.

The Avast product isnt designed as a web filter, even though you do have the basic ability to block some websites. Perhaps you should look into a web filtering service or appliance?

what you are looking for a proxy server....
the proxy server can be controlled to report what sites are accessed by who (check legal department about privacy of the employee, for the who part, if its annonymous it shouldnt be a problem) and then block those sites.

which proxy depends on your knowledge and budget.
a MS sollution is TMG (threat management gateway) but needs some budget for hardware/software.
a free solution could be a linux machine wiht squid proxy server installed. This requires some knowledge about linux/squid.

or look int other third party software.
for example:  http://www.artica.fr

like MAC said   avast is not a webfiltering tool and thus wont be able to filter the way that you desire.
