After upgrade to 8, Avast won't scan

Hello,

I have just upgraded and I can no longer scan my computer. I downloaded the manual for help. Regarding manual scanning it says 'To carry out a manual scan of your computer, select the “Scan computer” tab. This will open the “Scan Now” screen as shown below.' When I select the 'Scan Computer' tab, I don't get any other screen. The interface disappears. The systray icon spins once or twice and that's it. When I check running processes, there is nothing to indicate a scan is happening in the background.

I am running Windows XP. Thanks for any ideas to set me straight.

try avast repair

ad/remove programs > avast > uninstall > repair option...wait a minute and reboot

any change?

I tried the repair as described and restarted, but no change. I uninstalled, restarted, and re-installed and that worked. I'm now able to scan!
