ViewPoint Media Player

I was just looking in my Add/Remove programs.  No reason.....just looking.

There at the bottom was a "Viewpoint Media Player".  I never heard of it and I know I never downloaded anything like it.
 
I found some folder on it but didn't see anything like a Player.  Then I searched it on internet.  It seems that it comes bundled with AOL Messenger.  I had just recently downloaded the AIM Messenger and the date on the Viewpoint Media Player is the same date.

Some of the internet comments I found indicated it might be ad ware etc.
Can someone give some ideas on what to do with it?  I do want to keep the AIM Messenger.

Emma, this is My Opinion only. What your seeing could very well be what you have been told it was since it is associated with AOL. I know you say you want to keep their chat program. Unless you have alot of friends or relatives that strictly use AIM you might want to consider using MSN messenger for chat. I know that some prefer trillian as a chat program. But, whatever, I would suggest you get rid of the AOL stuff.  MSN
has voice to voice capability also. I don't think trillian does. If that's what AIM has you can have voice with MSN. Yahoo Messenger has voice capabilitys also.

the Viewpoint Media Player is installed when you install Aol Instant Messenger.. correctomundo        They put it in their latest release (maybe previous ones too,  Im not sure of that)   so that you can view their new annimated Buddies.    You can unistall the Medial Player and still use Aim..  it still works fine without it.. you just cant see the little critters others use

I don't have to see any pictures......I've got a real good imagination.

Of course I may be able to persuade my 2 good friends to get on Yahoo?

one of your friends has Yahoo as she used to use it to converse with her son..  he no longer uses it but its still on her machine...

not shure bout the other friend..  may hafta push her  hehe      (and this friend would LOVE ot have only ONE program on here for that as I have only 2 friends I talk with on it once in awhile)  lol

edit:  I uninstalled Viewpoint myself 2 weeks ago..    have seen no problems by doing so

Please believe me, I don't own any stock in Trillian but, it's one reliable interface that allows you to
chat with all of your friends regardless if they are on AOL (like Connie and Susz) or or MSN Messenger
like Neil or Yahoo like some of my kids, or ICQ like some other people I chat with.
I've been using Trillian for a fairly long time. Instead of having 4 separate programs, I only have one.
Oh, it also does IRC but I could never figure out how to use IRC.

Thanks Bob, the Trillian does seem to be a good way to go.  I have the Yahoo and like it.. but probably because I am semi familiar with it.

Of course my 2 friends and I are just using it for monkey business and half the fun is playing around with it.  Just trying to get everybody on the same page and happy.

Gaim is another alternative to Trillian.

Another toy to play with.
I found it harder to install than Trillian but, that's only my opinion.
