« on: May 03, 2005, 02:17:54 PM »
hello,

sometimes these process use 80 % (for a minute) of the CPU.  Its definitely to high to working with the PC while running these process at this time.

This process use 33,8 MB of RAM (while doing nothing) :-[

thanks

I had the same problem, my cpu was running at 80% plus and every thing ground to a halt. I did an uninstall then re-installed avast and touch wood, it is back to normal.

If its not one thing its another!!!!!

The idea of using a high priority is so that things complete quickly. I would suggest that you don't run the VRDB when you want to multi task and set it off when you are going to be away from your computer.

The VRDB only needs to be run every three weeks (default setting) and doesn't take a long time (mine takes about 6 minutes), but is dependent on your system. I do it as a part of my regular system maintenance.

Are you working with large (big) archive files at this time?
Maybe you can lower your security level (unchecking the scanning for files on open/create/modify into the Standard Shield settings).

no I worked only with firefox and outlook.

I want a PC that runs quickly. Max 5 percent of CPU and a longer VRDB generation is ok (or normal priority).
What is with fewer RAM-usage?

I think that you are trying to atain the unobtainable. Just opening a browser and browsing will take more than that. Run a virus scan and you will use much more than that. So I doubt that you would ever be able to atain 5% CPU usage for the VRDB generation. Even if you could switch the VRDB process to low priority from within windows, I doub't that it would be that small a percentage of CPU use.

The easiest way would be to do as I suggested, it is not like this is and every day occurance.
