Y-Axis ps/2 usb mouse freezes MOUCLASS.SYS & MOUHID.SYS NOT SIGNED

MS update page just hangs.  I downloading a Security Patch KB2879017 dated October 4th, Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 8 for Windows XP (KB2879017) from
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=40390. 
Hopefully that will fix it  On the page

I didn't find any other security updates.  I thought it was the pop up blocker so I turned it off and tried turning off Avast shield with no results.  My EarthLink dial-up has 14 minutes download remaining for KB2879017.  I'll be here.

Automatic Updates downloaded 7 updates and I just installed them successfully.  I guess there was not a problem because MS did not release them until last night.  I also changed the mouse to an old MS Basic Mouse.

Automatic Updates works.  I tried the download page where it checks your system and it used to freeze but now the green bar works but it stops with an error message.  I don't think I have the bandwidth with dial-up, but that's just my opinion since I have about 10 Firefox tabs open and another IE8 window open.
