does avast 4 pro work on xp x64 and how much memory does it use?

iam looking for a antivirus app that is very good and doesent use much system resources, and a av that fully works on windows xp x64 edition, I dont know if avast is right for me yet but Iam hoping you guys can answer my questions

1st- how much memory does avast use?
2nd- will it fully work on windows xp professional x64 edition?

does it run in 64bit mode? that would be awesoem if it did, most of the av software out there that do work in xp x64 are running in 32bit mode, what is this one doing?  I have a hunch it still runs in 32bit mode but is just compatible with xp x64 edtion, please let me know.

Yes, it is 32 bit, but compatible with XP x64 (it has 64 bit drivers).
Is it a problem?

As far I know avast! is the only one (free) antivirus that is compatible with XP 64bits... Maybe I'm wrong

I like it, I just wish it used around 15 or less megs, most of the time its over 15megs, but its ok I guss

Don't worry Gabe3, your using a program that gives you more then just, Standard and Email Shields.

For an AV, IMHO it's generally not important if it runs as a 32-bit or 64-bit process IF it is able to deal with both 32-bit and 64-bit infectors. That means both on-access and on-demand.

About the memory usage: probably it has been already discussed here many times, but avast components use many shared libraries and shared memory sections. This memory is used only once but counted several times - for every components that requires it - therefore the numbers from the memory usage column in task manager are not very accurate.

Runs beautifully with my dual AMD 64, the scanning speed is just out of this world as compared to the 32bit version, takes up 15.8mb on my system.

is it posable that I did a scan in 8 minutes on 60gigs of used space? I have two hard drives one a ide 80 gig and the other a sata 80 gig.  the sata is using 23gigs and the ide is using 39 gigs, I did a scan in 8 minutes, is that normal?  it seems pritty fast, Iam kinda thinking that maybe I have some sort of scan going on that doesent scan everything or something, or what, I dunno, whats the proper way to do a full system scan and detect everything

and when I select thorough scan does it just keep scaning my computer forever? it went though the same folder like a few times between a few hours
