'We value your privacy'
« on: November 12, 2013, 12:56:25 AM »
When trying to upgrade from 8.x to 9.x (Avast free edition) I'm asked by the installer to agree with some data gathering by Avast company.
As I don't remember.. may I ask if I agreed with something like this when was upgrading to version 8 or is this something new?
Thank you for the answer.

When you install the free version of avast!, you agree to the following:
http://files.avast.com/files/legal/eula-avast-free-2014.pdf
Your question doesn't make it very clear what you're questioning.
Not agreeing to the EULA, results in not installing the program.

Good point with the EULA...

"8.Privacy; Processing of Personal Information"

I'm trying to figure out if anything changed regarding this point about information collecting from my system, later processing by Avast company and even sharing with 3'rd parties according to the EULA...
Is this something specific for the free version of Avast only or are more information collected from the free version because it is free?

Since this seems to interest you, have fun reading all about it:
http://www.avast.com/en-us/privacy-policy
I personally don't care. What I do care about is the protection I receive when avast! is
installed and protecting my system.

The info collected is annonymous and regardless the avast! version.

"Official text:(...)"

Yes.. I read this.
Can I do anything more except not using e.g. Reputation Services to stop to send _any_ data from my client system with Avast AV free to Avast company?

You must agree to the EULA before installing avast.
Don't worry avast is "not" sharing any of your personal information. Period.  8)

FYI...I even printed the EULA off so I have a hard copy.  :)

It will be enough.
Although we do not encourage to do this. You're losing the cloud protection and also do not allowing that all other users have a better detection system. Nowadays, the 200 million users of avast! around the world turn into the best international sensor network to protect ourselves from emerging threats (0-day).
