avBugReport taking too much CPU in Avast 2014.9.0.2006

Upgraded to newest Avast free over the weekend (2014.9.0.2006), having had previous one installed for several weeks as alternative to VirginMedia's free offerings (which took too much CPU time generally!)
Very pleased with the old one, but this new one is proving to be a right pain!

Although it works, orange/blue ball rotates as expected when doing checks, I noticed that CPU load on my dual-processor laptop was showing both processors running at about 50-60% each.
Looking at the task list, it's good old avBugReport.exe taking 40+% of the total processors! The orange ball indicates no scanning taking place right now?! I even did a complete in-depth scan to check no nasty viruses had got in there, but everything is clean (OK, a few unreadable files but they aren't bugs or viruses!)

As I understand from previous posts over the years, it's been a pain a few times in similar ways, usually fixed by new updates etc.
So far, system still appears to be workable, but I really could do with this extra oomph when tackling day-to-day tasks.
Is there any way to either disable this, or otherwise see just what it's doing and why it seems to be never-ending?
As others have said, you cannot cancel this using the task manager, unfortunately!

I am having the same problem. It eats right through my laptop's battery life... it seems to still be able to play games though i think it doesn't use as much power when something else intensive is taking place. I am having some more problems then I had been though...

You can try a manual program update from the avastUI as version 9.0.2007 is now available, see http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=138753.0, for more information.
