Anyone here has experience with IPS (Intrusion Prevention System)
and if so, would it be necessary to have one even though you have a firewall (comodo with settings almost set to max and HIPS), avast and malwarebytes realtime protection (meaning is it a worthwhile layer of protection?)
here are some examples and are you familiar with these services below?

The acronym IPS could mean almost anything, and to my understanding this is what a firewall is meant to do block unauthorised access to your system.

Most Firewalls have an IDS (Intrusion Detection System) or attack detection, see slightly different acronym yet same general purpose.

In all honesty you can get bogged down with too many security based applications and you become a slave to them rather than the other way round.

Snort is in use on one of the URL scanners we use here, it has Suricata and Snort filters   http://urlquery.net/index.php

here you can see a Snort detection under IDS alerts   http://urlquery.net/report.php?id=7377499
