aswRvrt.sys Hangs When Booting Into Safe Mode
« on: November 16, 2013, 10:59:34 PM »
Like a lot of people on this forum, I'm trying to fix a computer that can no longer boot into Windows 7. Every time it boots up it wants to run startup repair, and upon completion promptly reboots and does it all over again. I tried safe mode and it loaded quite a few drivers before finally hanging on aswRvrt.sys. I ran FRST (64-bit) and got a log file, which is attached.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

We can try to fix it ...

While trying to boot, make sure you use this options. See images below.

Tell me will this fix your problem? If not, continue with FRSTScript and creating FixList.
Any improvements?

Open notepad.
  • Click Start
  • Type notepad.exe in the search programs and files box and click Enter.
  • A blank Notepad page should open.
  • Copy/Paste the contents of the code box below into Notepad.
Code: [Select]
S0 aswRvrt; C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\aswRvrt.sys [65776 2013-11-15] ()
S0 aswVmm; C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\aswVmm.sys [205320 2013-11-15] ()
C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\aswRvrt.sys

  • Save it to your USB flashdrive as fixlist.txt
>>  Boot into Recovery Environment

Start FRST in a similar manner to when you ran a scan earlier, but this time when it opens ....
  •     Press the Fix button once and wait.
  •     FRST will process fixlist.txt
  •     When finished, it will produce a log fixlog.txt on your USB flashdrive.
>>  Exit out of Recovery Environment and post me the log please.

Well, you are fast. I've edited my post.

Try to boot in Windows now. If you fail, try this?

While trying to boot, make sure you use this options. See images below.

Thanks and yeah, there was no noticeable improvement when using the Disable Driver Signature Enforcement option. I ran the updated fixlist and received the attached log. Still no luck booting into Windows but I appreciate your time and efforts! Anything else I can try?
