Win32:Evo-gen [Susp]
« on: November 21, 2013, 08:41:22 PM »
...I call tech support at Avast.  I got a guy there by the name of Jorge Cash who must be the worst tech person you every saw.  First of all he racked me over the colds for not keeping me computer up.. That was a lie because I take care of my computer like it was a brand new baby.  The next think I got from this tech. was that he told me that I had a virus.  I knew that.  He then began to accuse me of introducing the virus to my own computer.  Where did it come from?  How did it get there? On and on.  He then told me that he could not help me but it would cost me $179.00 to have a tech support specialist above him get rid of the virus.  There was no guarantee to that.  I have never been so shocked in all my life. I though Avast was better than that.  I did not expect to get hijacked  I expected help.  I asked this guy to get me a supervisor he refused.  I asked him to transfer me to someone else he refused.
Since I downloaded Avast 2014 it as detected a supicious file Win32:Evo-gen[Susp].  It calls it a virus. I have sacn with online scanners as well as Avast itself and it says that my computer is clean on all test.  Some of the scans that I have used have been malwarebytes. Hitman Pro.  SupeAntispyware, Bitdefender, etc.  All come back clean.   Avast will not put this in the virus bank or even move it.  The only way I can get rid of the pop up is to hit block and then OK on the pop up.  I think it is a false postive response genrated by the Avast installation.   I can not believe that they have not fix it .  The 2014 installation was not ready for prime time at all.
This is what the bad tech want to charge me $179 to fix.  Highway robbery..

Avast has got to know that his is false postive. I have read to many post in the forum and on google indicating that Avast has a serious problem with 2014 and this issue. My quesiton is why has body fixed it.. I'm really thinking  about moving over to Bitdefender.  Sorry I can not get my money back ...  What a rip off. ..

Hi everyone,
I had the same problem yesterday, however the file that avast flags as "suspicious" is a Pascal Application that I compile from my own code in Delphi (Delphi2006).  The compiler kept telling me that it could not find the file once compiled,
I tracked it down to Avast deleting it (or sending it to the quarantine zone).
I have sent a false positive report to Avast - My questions is: how long will it take for Avast to remove it from their database and, will I be able to use the same name again once it is removed?
What can I do in the future to prevent this from happening, when it is my own code (it's a simple database management application) - I don't want to always have to exclude the directory used by the compiler in order to prevent this, or is there another solution.  Avast is great but it is causing me concern...!
Thank you,

Derosoft

Although I've already mentioned it, I'm suddenly having exactly the same problems with a number of my own programs compiled with Visual Basic 6 Pro (both under Avast v8 and v9).

I'd love to be able to submit programs as false positive but, for contractual reasons, I'm legally not allowed to.

However, I'm begining to think that the detection may not be within the binary (which is why it comes out clean on a file scan) but rather in the program's actions once it has run. The reason that I say that is if I take out a handful of global declarations, the program produces an error message, but then runs (except that it can't access the data of course).

And it's actually the number of dynamic global declarations in file paths (using FileSystemObject) that triggers the response.

I've been having the same problem, I work in Visual Studio 2012 writing VB.NET programs and Avast keeps snatching my compiled programs and say they have Win32:Evo-gen[Susp].

This started about a month ago and is getting worse, and makes working very difficult, Avast doesn't even seem to take notice of any exclusions I setup, I've told it to ask what to do when it finds a suspicious file, but no it just does it's own thing.

I have scanned the file with Avast, result is no threat found, I've uploaded the file to Virus Total and 47 virus scanners say it's clean.

See my thread here

It may well be time to move to something else, Avast is getting too complicated and problematic.

Edit:

Actually looking in the virus chest, this has been happening since December 2012, it's littered with my programs and nothing much else.

I encountered a similar problem too. The first time I compiled a file [PascalABC.Net] enabled Avast , who scolded the process , called him a virus ( Trojan - program) , packed in a file . Knocked antivirus, he quarreled a bit and stopped. I did right to me. The next day I again opened my file. Exe and forgot to turn off Avast . He scolded him again , had called trojan, packed into a file. I heard that some of the " lads " viruses written in Pascal, but I do not write a virus ! I understand (I hope ) that Avast virus finds any file . Exe written using Pascal code . Therefore, I ask for your help to make so that Avast did not touch a file that is not malicious .
characteristics of the file
- Uses external resources (text file , a music file )
-817 Verified lines of code
game
Your code , it will not copy
I am from Belarus , so I use a translator . If you will not understand my message , I would not be surprised . If you need a link to a file - write to me about it ..
