Avast (Free) says Google Chrome is Malware
« on: February 05, 2012, 01:52:14 PM »

Today I was using Google Chrome on the AMC site The Walking Dead (this is not a risky site) and all of a sudden Avast starts trippin saying Google Chrome is Malware.

I let Avast delete Chrome, did a complete virus scan (24 adobe and Chrome files came up as viruses) and then tried to reinstall Chrome. Avast won't let me do it. I disable Avast and install Chrome, then re-enable Avast and Avast starts trippin again. My computer is not otherwise misbehaving.

Suggestions please???

Cheers

I have the very latest update (I am using Win Vista) i.e. 120205-1, and I still have this problem.

Now that you mention it there were 2 Avast updates today, and the problem started just after the first one was announced.

At the moment I have on Access Protection turned off.

Fixed  ;)

The reboot didn't fix it (and I did try that).

This did fix it - 120205-2. A new update came out (3rd today) and I can run Chrome while On Access Protection is running.

Thank you everyone for your help.

Avast was right.  Google Chrome is malware.

It came bundled with a completely unrelated software (which is conclusive proof of malware in and of itself), and forced itself to install, in spite of the fact I crashed the installer before it installed.  Installation happened against my will (as per usual for anything by Google, the most popular malware developer in the world), and uninstalling it was not only a task and a half, but resulted in a nag screen DEMANDING to know why I was uninstalling.

If someone brutally murdered Larry Page in broad daylight in front of cops and his family, they would be completely acquitted of all charges due to the fact that it's not illegal to murder a predatory non-human animal.  Even his own mother would squeal with glee at his death.  There would be more cheering for his death than there was for Osama bin Laden's.
