reboot problem
« on: June 12, 2005, 08:46:50 PM »
Hi

I was wondering if someone could help me out with a problem I've been experiencing.  My computer keeps spontaneously rebooting itself.  It WAS doing it infrequently, but when I tried to scan my computer with an antivirus program, it started to do it a lot.  I've tried to use Avast, A squared, and an online scanner, but the scanner can never finish, becasue my computer will restart.  I'm not sure if the problem is a virus or a hardware problem, since I can't finish a virus scan. The more my computer reboots, the more it experiences other glitches, too.

I'm running Windows XP, and have downloaded all the updates for it.  Here is my hijack this logfile:

My computer keeps spontaneously rebooting itself. I'm not sure if the problem is a virus or a hardware problem, since I can't finish a virus scan.
I think you must un-check the automatic restart of the system (Control Panel > System > Advanced > Initialization) to get a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) and more info.
Besides this, try a Boot Time Scanning of avast (schedule and run it).

I had this problem a few months back initially the reboots were infrequent but then the started increasing in frequency.  Turning off the auto reboot gave no information.  After severe head scratching re-installing windows and disabling programmes I replaced my power supply unit.... end of problem.  Whether or not this is your problem I don't know but it could be worth considering :D  Looking at you log you are running ZA antivirus (etrust) this could be a possible cause of conflict although I don't think it would cause a reboot
