OE express can no longer connect

I've installed Avast 4 on a PC running W 95 (it's my wife's and she hates changing things). She uses Oulook Express 6 to connect to her ISP and download her email. 

Since Avast4, she can no longer do that. OE startes the dialer, which after connecting presents a screen asking for her name and password and no matter what is entered, after trying, the same screen returns asking for the same thing again and again. This never hapened before Avast and everything connected and downloaded automaticaly. She can connect to the internet fine with her web browser (Firefox).

What to do?

Does she use a firewall? Which one?
Does ashMaiSv.exe is allowed to connect?

I think it's better if she sets her email to NOT use avast, close the email program, then run the Mail Protection Wizard to configure it.
