Avast slightly blocking my internet connection? (please help)
« on: December 23, 2013, 06:48:13 PM »
So... for the past couple of days now... I've been having problems with my internet connection on my Windows 7 ASUS laptop.

MalwareBytes won't update. It only goes to a certain percentage, stops, and does nothing else.

I also can't seem to download anything on my FireFox, I can't even update my FireFox. It does the same with with MalwareBytes. It goes to a certain percentage/number, stops, and does nothing else.

YouTube videos also only load for a couple of seconds before it just stops and load nothing else.

I just got off the phone with ASUS Technical Support and they said it was a security issue with my third party software.

My third party software is Comodo Firewall and avast! Free Antivirus.

The weirdest part is this did not occur on my Windows Vista Dell Desktop computer.

So can you guys help me out here? Is it my Comodo Firewall causing the issue or is it my avast Free Antivirus causing the issue?

Can someone please help me out here? I'd really appreciate it.

Thank you.

P.S.: If this is in the incorrect area, please move it to the correct area. Thank you.

if you right click avast tray icon and pause shields .... does it work then?

have you tried to delete all avast rules in comodo firewall, reboot and create new rules?

Okay I tried your first suggestion and MalwareBytes updated.

How do I fix this to where I can have my shields on but for me to still be able to download stuff on the internet?

My version is 5 not 6. The only link I found is for version 6 and even in version 5 help I didn't find anyway to do that.

Now what am I supposed to do?

It's an avast issue. Try a repair...Control Panel>Uninstall a Program>double click "avast">click "repair">reboot  (screenshot 1)

Comodo Firewall has a built-in whitelist. Both avast and MalwareBytes are on that list
and are thus whitelisted.

Also which version of avast? The latest is v2014.9.0.2011 http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=142936.msg1036519#msg1036519
And have you made the mutual exclusions in both avast and MBAM? (screenshots 2 and 3)

If that doesn't work we may be looking at a clean install.

After some further digging, Firefox is also on the CFW whitelist.

It appears to be an avast issue.

Okay. I'll try your repair suggestion first and then your other suggestions.

I'll double post with the results.

I forgot to mention that I do have the most up-to-date version. v2014.9.0.2011

You're welcome! Always glad to help.

sidenote: If YouTube acts up try disabling the "avast online security" in your browsers.
