As posted logs doesn't shows malware activity, I think that there is no need to go to extra checks.

My laptop is now running normally, but the avast! service is still disabled under msconfig, as it was preventing me from booting my laptop.
Should I now attempt to re-enable this service?

Can't tell. I am not member of avast team, therefore I can't assist you in that. I would re-try.

Before you try to enable, create few system restore points.

You can remove OTL by clicking on CleanUp! button.

I have successfully completed a clean install of avast!.

It seems some progress has been made, as the Microsoft Windows error message doesn't appear upon boot.

Although, the overall time taken for my laptop to fully load with the avast! service enabled is longer than 10 minutes. :(

Kind regards,

Koray

Also, just to put it in perspective, with the avast! service disabled - the time taken for my laptop to boot is roughly 2 minutes and 30 seconds.

Have you made any changes to the default settings in avast! ???
Try another boot. What other security programs are you running ???

Nope, I have made no changes to the default settings in avast!.

I have tried multiple boots with the avast! service enabled, and it is definitely prolonging the boot time to ridiculous lengths.

I only have avast! and MBAM installed on this system.

Kind regards,

Koray

Also, just to put it in perspective, with the avast! service disabled - the time taken for my laptop to boot is roughly 2 minutes and 30 seconds.

Are you getting any errors displayed in the Windows Event Viewer, these would obviously be at or shortly after a boot ?

Something else that you could try is delaying avast services on startup.
AvastUI > Settings > Troubleshooting - check the 'Load avast! services only after loading other system services' and see if that makes a difference.

I have set the avast! service to load up after other system services and I have disabled any automatic updates, but these changes still have not made a difference to the boot time.

It took 12 minutes and 27 seconds for my laptop to boot on this occasion.

I have attached an image of the 'Overview and Summary' from the Windows Event Viewer.

I have also attached an image of the 'avast! GUI' beside the 'Action Center' - depicting a contradiction between programs.

Kind regards,

Koray

I also tried a normal boot by selecting the option under msconfig, as shown by the attached image.

This was still ineffective, as my laptop took longer that 10 minutes to boot once again. Also, I was then presented with a different error message.

The error message is titled 'IAStorIcon.exe - Application Error', an image has been attached.

Kind regards,

Koray

1. if you can expand the Error (+) event viewer summary and see what that is about

2. Whilst windows action center (WAC) reports avast is off - checking the task manager (and or avast) avast is actually; the avastsvc.exe and avastui.exe should show in the task manager.

This is something which the WAC has form for (reporting avast is off, when it is working), it is normally resolved in a reinstall of avast. Or is your second image taken during the period where the system is still loading ?

Have you at any point done a windows system restore (as that can screw with avast and can cause a corrupt installation) ?

I'm at a loss as to what else to suggest as there seems to be other things going one than just this as your other topic suggests.

I don't know if this time issue could be related 'WinCDEmu Portable' to mount an image, whilst this image is being mounted I think avast would be heavily involved in scanning what would be considered new files. So I don't know if you manage to get rid of the WinCDEmu Portable, might also get rid of the interaction between the two.

Attached is an image of the expanded Event Viewer. I have restarted my laptop since the previous screen-shot of the collapsed Event Viewer.

I've checked the task manager and the avast! processes are present. The screen-shot of the WAC and the avast! GUI are after the system has loaded.

Is there a way to double-check and make sure WinCDEmu Portable is no longer present on my system?

I have asked the same question on their forum and was sent this response:

http://forum.sysprogs.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2903&sid=1eaa6625184242e5aaeab6eb18cfcca9

But given the start of Thunder's comment, I only gave those files a quick search.

Kind regards,

Koray

There isn't much information in the image as there are lots of errors as such but no detailed information on individual errors.

Unfortunately this looks like you need someone with a working knowledge of tracking/fixing system errors.

Thunder is giving you information to:
1. search the registry for those names for instances of either of those.
2. he gives a registry path "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\BazisPortableCDBus" this may have the driver location.

I tried a search on how to uninstall WinCDEmu Portable, which turns up a lot of hits.
http://uk.search.yahoo.com/search?p=how+to+uninstall+WinCDEmu+Portable&ei=UTF-8&fr=moz35
But many of those say it is a run once thing (e.g. portable) and doesn't install.
