Hey there guys, i spent so much time on the PC today to find out what's the problem with my Avast(i use the Free version, XP Professional 2002, Servica Pack 3) ... yesterday, i was going to install a new version of Photoshop(i was CS4) and i was going to download CS6 ... i try a couple of versions to find the better one and exactly to find the best free one, whatever ... during the time i was downloading, i don't remember, i was having to restart the PC for something, because of some programs i didn't even wanted to have during the download of the CS6 .... and after that my icon of the Avast was with X, and the other icon of WIndows Security Alerts was to there .... i was wondering if it's a virus, i scanned the PC and i found 2 viruses, but that didn't fix it .... and after that i was thinking that i have to uninstall the program and install it again, but it didn't work, cause i can't uninstall it "there was an error during product installation" and i started to search here in the forum to find my problem what it is, but no luck ... and that i was thinking that my free license is over and i have to make another one .... I did go to Register, but when i click - only i see it's loading and than nothing ........ i'm sorry, but i don't remember when was last time i update with free license, i try that offline, but after i got the license key - was telling that was wrong .... so, after all this thing i started to seach a way to remove it, found things here by a Safe Mode, but i didn't know how to do it ... than a Uninstall programs(i try only 2), but they do the same thing like in the simple way to remove a program .... and after a couple of ways trying with this way - http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (sorry, i don't know how to run Safe Mode), i tried to remove it the simple way and i did, than i install it again, but guess what - it's still showing that im unprotected,Even if it's showing in Register that im registered, it shows me that i have 0 days remaining, but i think i'm with a older version, even if i downloaded the last version ...but the only problem isn't that i'm not protected, i still can't remove the program or even Update it(it's showing "Failed to update. The avast! service it's not running - this thing i saw on other things to), i try repair to in the Control Panel>Programs>Change/Remove (but nothing error HTTP server returned error 407-this is what i see when i try to Update) i try a file to update it, but it's saying that the version is older, i saw something for 1995, i can't remember what .... wow, so much type for this kind of problem, i hope we deal with it, 10x anyway ! :)

the version it's showing me it's 32767.65535

When you reboot your computer, at the very beginning of the boot process, start pressing F8 regulary.

You will then get a black screen with options like Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Command Prompt, Safe Mode with Networking, as well as other options.

Choose one of the Safe Mode options, and the boot process will continue, ending up with the computer booted in Safe Mode.

You can then uninstall your product from here, either using the vendor's Uninstall Utility, or through Windows.

In simpler terms with links...

1. Download Avastclear, Rejzors uninstall tool and the appropriate Avast program edition

Note: You need to be ONLINE during this install

http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup_online.exe
http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_pro_antivirus_setup_online.exe
http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_internet_security_setup_online.exe
http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_premier_antivirus_setup_online.exe

Avastclear : http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avastclear.exe
Rejzors Uninstall tool: http://rejzor.wordpress.com/avast-cleanup-tool/

2. Uninstall Avast by control panel  [If you don't have Avast in control Panel go to #4]
3. Uninstall in safe mode using Avastclear. [running in normal mode will prompt you to go to SAFE MODE (running files can't be deleted)
4. Run Rejzors Uninstall Utility in Normal Mode (removes traces avastclear doesn't) - reboot.
Check : Once uninstalled check in device manager>view>show hidden devices if there is anything related to avast with a yellow triangle.. if so, uninstall it and reboot.
5. Install the version you downloaded.
6. Reboot.

The simpler way would be to run avastclear in normal mode which will then PROMPT to take them into safe mode...

Thanks.

I'm not interested in getting into a flame war on the best way to get into Safe Mode.

For 99.9999% of computer users, F8 is the recommended method.

Well, there is all kind of people, it's not my problem that I don't know or that just I'm so crazy after all this s**t, sitting on the PC all day ... so I guess the main thing to solve the problem is to remove the program by the Safe Mode way?

No one is blaming you for not knowing how to get into Safe Mode. Using the Avast "clear" program is unique to Avast.

Removing the program using the Uninstall Utility in Safe Mode is the preferred way, no matter how you get in Safe Mode.

That's a good idea...

If you are still having issues after doing a clean install, post again.

There is always someone on the forum who is knowledgeable and willing to help.

i try the F8 way,but it didn't work and i try the other way (Using the System Configuration Tool Method - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/how-to-start-windows-in-safe-mode/#winxo find the XP way) and after that  i didn't know what to do, i downloaded the avast clean and Rejzors Uninstall, but after i got in the Safe Mode >>> http://www.tekmoz.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/windows-is-running-in-safe-mode.jpg i didn't know what to do and i returned to the normal and i did uninstall the program the normal way(by Control Panel>Programs) i was wondering what to do now - install again ? What if i download the latest version and than it's still a old version ?
