Hi , I paid awhile back for Avast on my old laptop which last month caught fire (a very nasty thing to happen),now on this one I'm Avast free.
Can my paid protection by transferred or not?

Sure, just install the version you require and then the license as you did for the other system.

If you didn't save a copy of the license.avastlic you can use the Resend avast License http://www.avast.com/resend-license-paid.php, you will need to enter the email that you used when purchasing the license, e.g. the one that the original email with the link was sent.
