Use Avast Internet Security for external disk used as back up

I would like to use Internet security to protect my back up external disk. I already use it for my PC.

Is my external disk protected whether I add the category Disk Media in the menu Area to be scanned. Or maybe the option "All hard disks " is enough?

To scan your external HDD just right click on the disk then click scan.
I have an external HDD with a little over 500 GB of data and it took over 1 1/2 hours to scan.
