Does anyone know whether Avira intends to continue offering protection for  computers running Windows XP after April this year?

Maybe you should ask that question on the Avira forum, this is avast.

Yes it will. Don't you worry avast! until recently still was protecting even Windows 2000.

NOW it would be better to upgrade your system to Win 7 or Win 8.

I am actually using Win 8.1, but I'm hoping to keep an old machine in working order purely for short term "emergency" use if/when current machine blows up or something.

Alot of people out here still using XP, can't afford to upgrade, it's good to know that Avast will still support it.
