What happens when...

What happens when avast web shield detects a malicious script executes? It says i'm infected, but when immediately scan the whole c:\, nothing is found. Did webshield block it altogether? Do i have to do a whole scan on c:\ when this happens, or should i feel safe that the script was completely blocked?

Avast! home edition does not have script blocker, if you want to protect yourself some scripts you can download MS Antispyware (http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx) which has a script blocker or these programs:

Script trap: http://www.snapfiles.com/opinions/ScripTrap/ScripTrap.html

Script Defender: http://www.analogx.com/contents/download/system/sdefend.htm

These are the ones I know right now.  I'm sure theres more.

Thanx, though in the avast program settings, it seems like it has a script blocker, and as i said, when i do a scan, no infected files are found. that's why i was confused. Anyway, i really don't want to use microsoft, but are those other script blockers reliable? do they have adware/spyware, etc? i'm not familiar with those companies.

It would be helpfull if you gave the full error message and virus that was detected as I believe it was VBS something, which web shield can detect in the Home version.

You are given an option (only one) abort connection! this stops the file/page, etc. from being downloaded, so you won't find it on your HDD, it didn't get downloaded.

Extract from avast! help file:

Web Shield provider protects your computer from viruses that may infect your computer when browsing the Internet - especially when downloading files from web pages.

If you - possibly by mistake - download an infected file and try to start it, avast! will prevent the infection thanks to its Standard Shield provider (which scans all files that you start of open). With Web Shield, however, the virus will be detected even sooner - during the download of the file. So, Web Shield makes your computer even safer than before.

Cool. yeah, it was vbs which i don't think should be executing in firefox....
