the ol' stopping at awsrvrt.sys problem again (take 2)
« on: February 14, 2014, 02:16:46 PM »
Reposting - my original post glitched out a bit when I submitted it, keeps telling me I've already posted it but it doesnt appear in the forum, mods feel free to delete this if I've doubled up

Would you believe both my father and my father in law have managed to knacker their computers up with pretty much the same issue.  Dad's was stopping at awsrvrt.sys but now makes it as far as mup.sys before stopping at the same point, and the father in law's just stops at aswrvrt.sys

I've taken the HDD from dad's pc and plugged it into another box, same issue.  I was then reading about some of the outstanding work done by essexboy on this forum and was hoping I could steal some of his time too :)

I've run the reatogo boot disk and FRST for the first pc (the one now stopping at mup.sys), and attached the file to this post, if I can be super cheeky I'll attach the file for the second pc (the one stopping at aswrvrt.sys) soon.

Hi initially I will remove the malware and see if that enables a boot

Download the attached fixlist.txt to the same location as FRST
Run FRST and press FIX
On completion try a normal boot

it stops at the same point as before (mup.sys)

did you need me to run the FRST tool again?

OK next method will be to run a restore point

Download the attached fixlist.txt to the same location as FRST
Run FRST and press fix
Again try a normal reboot

On this one we will hit the restore point first as there is also some adware to be removed, but we can look at than when you are back up

Download the attached fixlist.txt to the same location as FRST
Run FRST and press fix.

On completion try a normal boot

There is some adware to remove on the second system

Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your desktop.
  • Close all open programs and internet browsers.
  • Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
  • Click on Scan.
  • After the scan is complete click on "Clean"
  • Confirm each time with Ok.
  • Your computer will be rebooted automatically. A text file will open after the restart.
  • Please post the content of that logfile with your next answer.
  • You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[S1].txt as well.
