Cant trigger protection behavior via SMS, Android 4.4.3

I have a moto x Tmobile running android 4.4.3, although everything is set up correctly I can not trigger device protection by sending SMS, only by Avast Portal. Please help!

Same here. It used to work, before. Not sure what's changed other than I went Premium.
This is on my wife's phone and mine is exactly the same model (Note 3) and exact same setup and everything works fine.

Also I tried removing everything Avast and re installing from scratch and now in addition to the above problem, the hard reset proof fails to write to system partition.

I checked in the anti-theft app permission settings and it says it uses SMS xx minutes ago, but the sms didn't trigger any actions.

Oh boy, do I feel silly. Using my own pin instead of wife's to send sms command.
problem solved.

Now only Hard Reset Protection issue remains.
