Unblock ISP
« on: July 14, 2005, 03:04:10 PM »
I am new here. I have Home Edition on XP Home Edition. I was away from my computer for a month. When I returned I am not able to read the newspaper I normally read. Is there any way I can check whether it was blocked

I tried a System Restore & this didn't work. I also have on AD Aware & Spybot on my computer.

It is not likely that Avast is blocking it.
I guess this is a online newspaper.
Can you give me the link (if it is not subscriber only)?
Let me have a look.

The link works perfectly fine, what Web browser did you use to look at it?  Internet Explorer?

The link works equally well in IE and FireFox.

The site is opening in all browsers just fine.

Is there anything in Avast's log file about this site being blocked?
Did you already cleaned out your IE cache? If not, do so.
Already removed all temporary (internet) files? If not, do so.
What settings do you have in the webshield provider?

Web Shield set at Normal. Enable Web Scanning checked as well as using Intelligent Screening.  In Exceptions there are no URL’s to block, box empty & in Mime to Exclude there are audio, image, text & video.  URL Blocking is empty. In Advanced the Silent Mode is checked.
I have turned off Avast & still couldn’t access.

If you can access where else should I try.

At this point it sure like Avast has nothing to do with it, but don't worry...
We certainly will try to tangle this problem and solve it.

You never told us, but I guess you are using IE as browser.
Can you install Opera (with java) and see if you are able to open the site with it?
This will tell us if it is just a browser problem or that the problem needs to be found somewhere else.

Download Opera

Eddy I already have firefox on my machine. So do I need to download & try Opera.

I just tried in firefox & IE again thestar.com   Interesting stories etc that are from the daily paper I cannot open the article  in either broswer But when I click on Traffic Cam  Crossword no problem in both Browsers . It seems the their links aren't a problem to other sources but   something is still blocking my computer.

I couldn't get the URL for Malware. I run almost daily Adaware SE & it is updated as well as Spy Bot S& D.  I also have Sygate Personal Firewall. I checked the log there & nothing.

Try the link again, I made a typo.
Follow all 9 steps there as instructed.
At least we will know for sure that the system is clean.

Did you cleaned out your cache and temp files as I suggested?

I haven't answered because I wanted to try out a few things. First of all I had a friend bring a laptop over & try to access the same page & no luck.He can't get on either & he has no firewalls on the computer. I am on High Speed Cable with the TV  company, I have notified them but no luck with them so far. They are looking into the problem .  I have run Trend Micro on line house call & nothing there. I can't do anything with Hijack as they say don't remove unless you know what you are doing. Any new suggestions?
