Is 2014.9.0.2021 a mandatory update?

Hi,

I switched on my PC today and unexpectedly a pop up window informed me that I had to press a continue button to complete my update of Avast to 2014.9.0.2021. My program update setting is set to "Ask when an update is available" as I want to control when I want to update Avast rather than having the program do it automatically. Is this update override normal as I've never had it happen to me before.

Thanks, Asyn. Bit worrying as a few of my past updates has resulted in my system freezing up and resulting in an unusable PC. Fortunately, this time the update hasn't affected me using my PC.
