Is Avast really secure?
« on: August 21, 2014, 03:10:14 AM »
I noticed that Avast doesn't block malwares. Also its scan doesn't find them. I had several malwares and other crap like astromenda and similar crap, spy cookies, hijacking crap etc on my PC and I have no clue how they got thru since Im trying to be very careful what Im installing. I needed other softwares to find and remove them. It's difficult to trust Avast anymore.

Turn on PUP scanning in web and file shield settings, cookie's aren't spyware and can be cleaned with CCleaner.

If in the habit of downloading free software, nuisance and PUP (Possibly Unwanted Software) may come along with it.  Avast! isn't set by default to block this sort of stuff, as CraigB says.

avast PUP detection is default off exept for in boot scan .... so if you want PUP detection, turn it on

What Does "Scan PUP" Mean in Avast?

Help! I'm a legitimate software vendor/advertiser/toolbar maker! My stuff isn't malicious, why are you listing it as a PUP?

It's a good idea to have MalwareBytes installed.
