Re: Version V9/2014 installer ?, PC to crawl & no internet issue with V10/2015

NG is in there, but it's an option in the center column of Tools in the Avast setup.  There are enough such tools that you have to scroll down now.

You don't actually need to set up NG for Avast to provide fairly effective protection.

What Tools do you have selected there?  Have you tried it with all the Tools disabled and just the 3 shields on?

That is my plan....also with HTTPS scanning unchecked since it seems like NG that has some more "develop" for Avast to work on.
Also, I noticed in one other thread that Rep Services in V10 is turned off by default ?......is that true if NG is disabled ?
Question though.......if you can turn off NG in Custom Install......then I thought it was used in DeepScreen ?  Since DeepScreen is standard part of core how does it work if NG is off ?......or is DeepScreen removed ?.....or is NG not really off or some subset ?

AVAST NG
A hardware based virtualization solution capable of running each Windows process in standalone safe virtualized environment (VM) and fully integrated to your desktop. Each process is executed in its own instance of VM, which means totally isolated from your other applications. This feature is now powering the Avast DeepScreen, resulting in better detection. Avast NG requires HW virtualization enabled.

But if your system is capable of running it, you are certainly missing out on some Next Generation technology.
The initial slowdown when installing NG only lasts for a relatively short amount of time but IMHO is certainly
worth the long term potential increase in protection.
Again, Your Computer, Your Choice. :)

I have tried four times to install the new 2015 version and each time it installs on the reboot I get bsod. I have to boot into safe mode uninstall avast and then it boots up fine. I have no problems running the latest version before this one but the new one I can't use. I do computer repair and have never had a problem putting avast free version on any of them but I won't try the new one till I know that there won't be a problem with it. I have run avast on every system I have ever had since it first started and I won't change that. I think it's a great program. Hope I can give 2015 a try at another time but for now I'll hold off.

You could start your own topic and give us a complete description of your problems and the system your using.
Someone would be glad to help you solve your problem.
From your description, we don't even know what type of computer your attempting to install avast 2015 on.

But if your system is capable of running it, you are certainly missing out on some Next Generation technology.

Understood....but it appears from multiple other threads that NG is bogging down a lot of "capable" systems in either memory or CPU usage.  This is exactly the same "impact" as V9 release when it came out.  My guess is that Avast releases these new revisions to hit a marketing window.....ie, in order to say 2015 they have to release in late Fall.  The pressure to do this may be more than the need to make sure first release is all worked out.  I'm100% sure Avast will spin/tweak V10 with upcoming releases since enough people are having performance issues. IHMO a 5+ or more minute wait to settle on each boot is not acceptable. I take my laptop daily to other places so reboots are multiple times a week.  Also, others have performance issues when NG "runs/scans"......anyway, I think Avast has tweaking to do....which is understandable.  I just think what Avast calls BETA in the Forum is ALPHA and what they call RELEASED is really BETA.

So, I'm sure they will get this NG working better.....I'll wait for those improvements.  In mean time I can try V10 without NG & HTTPS scanning (seems two biggest problem areas within V10) and then down the road re-install/re-enable when those features are more solid.  Also, this process can determine if one or both of those was truly the issue during my experience.  For "me" I've been in the tech biz for many decades and there is difference in being leading edge and bleeding edge. :)
