Shields start issue
« on: November 21, 2014, 06:09:38 AM »
Anyone else have this issue?

When I shut down the shields control all (3) for gaming and then re-enable them the Web shield will not restart. It will show a yellow exclamation over the Avast icon in the task bar. I must restart the computer to get the Web shield going again. Running the latest version of Avast 2015.10.0.2208 virus def #141120-1

Haven't seen it nor heard of it before.
See if a repair of avast solves it.

Gave the repair option a try. No luck. Still have to reboot the PC to get it started again.

Yes, i have the same issue and i have mentioned it on few threads. It won't happen every time, but sometimes will. Even clean install of 10.0.2208 won't fix it.

My posts on this problem:

I have problem with disabling/enabling shields with 10.0.2208, even after a clean install. There's definitely problem with it. For example, when re-enabling shields, it sometimes fails to re-enable Webshield and rebooting computer seems to be only solution. Also, when stopping Avast service from services menu, process takes ages and then there's an error after that.

and

...also had problems with disabling/enabling shields via right click menu. Sometimes after re-enabling active shields, it wasn't able to re-enable Webshield and computer also started to freeze.

Ok...I've done a clean install but have yet to see if the issue persists after disabling it while gaming. Will post with updated info soon.

When i clean installed Avast, first time i tested shields there was no problem and i though the issue was probably gone. But when i tested again, the problem still exists. So you better try few times to see if the problem is really gone.

From your signature i see you have Xfi Gamer sound card. I also have Xfi Xtreme (Music) card. Dunno if it got anything to do with the problem?? Doubt it though.

Update:

Did a clean install of Avast and left out (2) modules during install and the problem still persists. When I click 'resolve all' the following will show after ~ 10 seconds.

The following components could not be started: Web shield

The issue seems to have started with the last Avast program update.

I've been having the exact same issue since updating to the 2015 version...

Furthermore, the web shield stops me from making a post with an image in it on 4chan. When the web shield is active, it stops the upload and causes a notification for a "connection error". Again, a problem I've only started having since the 2015 version.

I hope this gets fixed sharp-ish.
