Yes, I have a recovery disk and it's in my new computer but it doesn't work. It's still stuck on insert disk. My computer is a Dell. No, I don't know how to go into the BIOS and set the machine to bood from the CD drive.
This should help. I's set to use a USB but simply put CD in the first spot and it starts looking for a CD.

Make sure you make CD first and not USB. If it is set to USB, any time you boot the computer with a USB drive connected, if it is not bootable, you will get the message that no operating system is found and the computer will not boot up until the USB stick is removed and the machine is restarted again. It will give you the impression that your computer is completely messed up when it isn't. This does not happen with disks. If the disk is not bootable, Windows just skips it and goes to the regular boot from the hard drive. I absolutely do not recommend setting a computer to boot from USB unless there is no disk drive.
Midnight, turn on the computer and keep tapping on F2 to get into the BIOS. Once there, look through the options until you find something called boot order or boot options. Put the CD drive first and the hard drive second. then exit the Bios saving the settings. this is usually done by hitting F10. The computer will restart and then should boot from the recovery disk. From there you should be able to set the machine back to how it was when you bought it.
Another thought is that usually there is more than one recovery disk. When it says to insert disk it may mean the second one.
