Just had updates for XP via 'XP Update Extender'. I choosed 8 from 10. Installed without any issue.

Don't know why my W10 Envy machine is having such a problem with MS Cumulative Patch KB3172985.
Since Tuesday I've tried and Retried to download the update several times each day and continue to get: Error code: (0x80073712)
MS updates for W10 are more frustrating as time goes on IMO. $:-\$

Just to update for anyone interested. There are many many posts on several forums about the Cumulative Update KB3172985 NOT Downloading, HANGING at various points and NOT Installing via Windows Automatic Updating.
Also the same amount of post in the same forums and Tech page about the "Stand Alone" download from MS Update Catalogue NOT installing as well.

My win10 Cumulative Update KB3172985 was went fine and smooth w/AIS.

No problems here on 3 Win 10 machines. This desktop, my Windows Tablet, and an ancient (2005 vintage) single core laptop. All 3 updated without a hitch as did my Windows phone.

Yes I read posts of all those who had no trouble. I was posting my information for those who may have had issues as hundreds have on numerous tech sites. Enough that MS is monitoring the situation as more complaints come in and read is contemplating a fix. Googling the issue will result in more info.

Just to update. KB3172985 Cumulative Update finally installed on my HP ENVY machine ONLY after I deleted the contents of C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download folder and ran the Stand Alone update.

Yes my windows 7 laptop updated quickly and efficiently this time. Maybe they finally fixed things.

My husband's win 7 computer has been checking for updates for over 6 hours. It usually takes around an hour.

I received only 2 win updates on my win 10 computer.

Only two microsoft updates for win 10 home 64-bit, plus the MSRT tool. I did have the Error Code: 0x800706d9 present on Windows Update until I enabled Windows Firewall. Once that started all three updates downloaded and installed.
