Bad Billing from Avast-Nexway
« on: January 26, 2015, 07:47:36 AM »
Hi. I activated my Avast Internet Security on 3/26/14. It is due for renewal on 3/26/15. On 1/10/15 I was charged $49.99 on my Visa by a Avast-Nexway. I did not authorize the charge. I have called the Visa Fraud Dept to dispute the billing.

Who is Avast-Nexway at (415) 449-4713 phone number? Are they a scam as is indicated by several sites on the Internet? Are they your reseller? If so they got my Visa card number and billed me for something I did not authorize. If they are a reseller for you and they billed my account my Account Settings on Avast  should indicate 3/26/16 and not 3/26/15!

Here is a site that tells of many others that have been scammed.

http://www.scambook.com/search/reports/p/2?search=nexway

This is no way for you to do business. If I do not get an answer from you as soon as possible I will NOT renew my account and I will add derogatory comments to the scam site!

I tried sending a ticket but it did not allow me to login!
Bob

Nexway is a legitimate company that handles sales/financial parts for avast and a lot of other companies.

My Avast free was due for renewal but you had an offer on the renewal notice for the Pro version.
I paid for that and now, from minutes later until now, hours later, I have nothing. just a couple of blank windows, one headed 'Avast Free Antivirus (Not Responding)' and the other just having a logo with rectangles on the LHS of the Title bar.
This is an appalling way to treat your CUSTOMERS. I WANT MY MONEY BACK.

I sent the license to chris268.
Please don't panic. Emails can get lost. And sometimes there might be an issue (as well called a bug) when you do something with a product / program. In most cases it's easy to fix. Most common sentence in IT is "have you tried to turn it off and on again?". This approach works.

Let us know if your case has happy end...

Thanks for the license. I did manage to get the non-free version of Avast working in the end. I forget how. I think maybe the license was just very slow in getting to me.
But now I have no Avast, neither the free version, nor the pay-for version.
I think probably AVG has killed off my Avasts.

How can I kill off AVG? I've asked AVG, but they have not replied.

I have in the last few minutes gone to Control Panel, Administration, Services, and STARTED two Avast Processes, which I assume had been stopped - I suspect by AVG. I don't know yet if my Avasts are now actually working again or not. I've not seen any sign of activity.

First, be sure to get rid of all remnants of AVG..!!
-> https://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB11#artTitle

Then:
1. Download Avast Pro Antivirus: https://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_pro_antivirus_setup.exe
2. Follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed Avast versions..!!)
3. Reinstall Avast with the downloaded installer from point 1.
4. Reboot.

Looks like you have fallen foul of the auto renewal option when you first purchased avast.

I agree with DavidR.

It looks like yo have auto-renewal enabled.
If this is the case you did gave avast permission to withdraw the money for extending your license.
Before the license expired you have gotten 3 (or should have got) mails telling you.
If you don't take action the license will be extended automatically and yes that means you will have to pay for it.

Please use do some (re)search(ing) while this has been explained many times before.

yes, we are sending several "warning" to avoid such situations. We are keen to find "where the emails disappeared". If it's a bug then we need to fix it. So far it look s that "email was send" but customer "haven't read it". Would you mind to check you SPAM box?
