No Parental Control icon?
« on: January 27, 2015, 02:55:00 AM »
Hi, is there a way in Windows Vista for the admin to set up Windows Parental Control in a standard account with no icon in the Taskbar (not "hidden" that's easily seen)?

Setting up Windows Vista Parental Controls    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/windows-vista-parental-controls
Nothing there about having no icon in the bottom right of the screen.
I guess it can't be done. Oh well...

Thanks guys for trying to help, I appreciate it!

How about giving the kid(s) a limited account and hide the icon...

That's what we're discussing, a limited/standard account, and I can't hide the icon, other than making it "hidden" which means click the arrow to see.

It really isn't hard to do.
Learn how to handle the os.

1] Create a limited account.
2] Hide what you want to hide.
3] Make sure the kid(s) can't change the settings.

Again Eddy, there's no option to "Hide what you want to hide". The only thing is you could make the parental control icon "Hidden", which means instead of it being there the whole time, you have to click the two white arrows to uncover it.
What I'm looking for is to do away with the icon there altogether.

Yes there is.
Login as real administrator and set the restrictions you want on the limited account.

If you could show me where that option is I'd appreciate it.
Attached are the screenshots of the parental control option screen, and an illustration of "hiding" the parental control icon in the notification area.
