False Positives
« on: September 20, 2005, 04:52:08 PM »
We all know that every antispyware has its own false positives, detecting some programs we need ,as spyware, right?
Well, if I were to recover my computer to factory settings, and everytime I scan with trend micro and ad-aware they detect the SAME spyware every time....(every time when I recover my computer)
then is that a strong sign that they are legitimate programs?

thanks,

No. Some build computers came with spywares. Even Microsoft brings Allexa.

but the thing that's been bothering me most is that i cant go to the internet until i install SP2 from my cd so that i can have a firewall.

But when I go on the internet to install adaware it doesnt detect the usual 18 spyware that came with my computer
instead it detects 8
is there any clue to this?

P.S. i know some microsoft updates come with alexa but why?

You seem to call 'track history' of adware. Lavasoft Ad-aware makes the distintion between one and the other.
Probably when you go to Internet and download it, some cookie, recent files used... etc. etc. make the difference.
Never mind if, after all, you scan your system and get it cleaned.

P.S. i know some microsoft updates come with alexa but why?
MS bought the company which makes Alexa and stay with some of Alexa features regardless the spy behavior of it  :P
