no rssponce from avast on update

 :o He y there I have been trying for a week to update both defs and sys but it freezes up I tried to uninstall but it giving a error message can you help

What OS/SP ?
What exact version of avast ?
What is the exact error message ?
Already tried a repair ?
How are you trying to uninstall ?

I have windows 7 home premium (Ligit) it says that after it starts to create a restore point it freezes. I forgot to mention I have tried repair it. I have tried to remove it from both avast control panel and from programs and features. It says the version is ffffff-ff so I have no idea

Try a repair from the control panel.
If that fails, get and use the uninstall tool and see if that will remove it.
If it does, install the latest version:

 ;D Thanks the avast clear program in safe mode worked a treat so congrats and again THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!!!!

   It worked and it worked prefect I am downloading a new copy so again thanks to you and all here on the forums

I already thought that it would work, but it is always nice to hear back from someone  ;)
