Driver Detective malware/virus...
« on: February 25, 2015, 06:02:35 PM »
A friend thought this 'program' was real and downloaded it onto my computer. I have documents on my computer that I don't dare want destroyed. I'm not taking any chances when it comes to finding this nasty thing, however, when I did 'uninstall' it a few days ago it popped up late last night being active. I thought it was gone. Avast couldn't find any viruses and neither did Malwarebytes couldn't find it.

How do I really get rid of this thing before it hurts my computer in the future? I can't afford to buy a whole new computer again.

Thanks for your help.

DriverDetective is a legit program   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wVDeJu8ItPk

if you want a check, see instructions here  https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0
scroll down to Farbar Recovery Scan Tool ... run as instructed and attach the two diagnostic logs

Pondus, that software is not completely "kosher", qualified as crapware infested.

But what really comes without junkware and crap nowadays, not an awful lot  :(
Tested and here are the results from the genuine real McCoy tool: https://www.metascan-online.com/en/scanresult/file/609feea4fa5444b0bedda06c70047179

Your examples there are old....

If you look at the website, they seems to be  partner with Norton  http://www.drivershq.com/Affiliates/CB/Hop.aspx

Well, I just got back on my computer hearing it 'activate something'. Woke the computer up and sure enough Driver Detective popped up again. I uninstalled the program two weeks ago. Three days after uninstall, the program popped up again. And tonight, it did it again.

This is a worm. How do I get rid of it?
This program is not legit folks. It came from CNet and yeah, it's 'partnered with Norton', but I don't think Norton really knows what's happened to 'their' program. It's been currupted and keeps popping up on my computer around 1am EST. Not happy about this. Why hasn't Avast company flagged this as a trojan yet?

I even had a computer savey friend go through my registry and clean it out and IT STILL popped up.

Please help me. I'm fed up.

Oh, and yes I backed up my files.
