At least we now know where those that brought down the Off - Topic forum have gone to. Grin
I sincerely hope that they will all be happy at their new home. Smiley
Dear Connie and at least your Connie again and not just .
I at least wished you folks well in your new endeavor which is more than can be said for your wishes.
I have also removed your picture from the avast! gang album as you requested.
Why is it that the only time you seem to post in here lately is to complain or look to cause another fight?
Enough already.

look back bob..    this is my only post complaining about anything... and my only  post in weeks  :)
Ive kept my mouth shut and ignored it all..  Until  now.       You may have "wished us well"  but
you said we .. those who left and are at the new place.. are responsible for closing the off topic here.

Well bob..  you know that is not true.. yet you couldtn resist saying so.      It was closed because of
the constant fighting.    The members who do happen to also use our forum never once fought in here
except for one.       Your comment was mean spirited and seen for what it is worth.

Ive keep quiet for long enough.      And still, am not saying all that could and should be said.    Why?
Because it does no good.      You always get away with it.

I do not, and it was not my intent to do so,     want to turn this thread into about our forum and your
comments.     I did however need to remark ABOUT Them and show that it is seen and we want it to
stop NOW.   There is NO need for it.

Now..  let this thread go back ot what  Eddy intended it to be for and I happen to agree with him.  It IS
turning into an off topic forum and it will be at risk of closing as off topic did  (and its sad that it did).   I
hope that is not the case.

I DO still come thru here to search for things when I need help with something as there is a huge amount
of very good information here.  I will continue to do so.

Now... I am done.. and you can stop rolling your eyes Darth  :)    Im not meaning to startup anything..   just
to put an end to it  :)

Connie
From my school days, I seem to recall that to end something means to stop it not to continue bring things up.
That was usually called nagging.
If you've got more to say, why not spit it out. It's better than choking on it.
I'm still trying to figure out what I've been getting away with. I wish you would explain it to me.
You seem to think that everything some one says has to have a sinister meaning to it.
Have you ever considered that some of us don't operate that way?

Well forum folks,

Lets return to the topic of the thread, and that is what belongs in the general and what does not. If I read postings like "question about forum policy", "happy birthday...", "I tought this might", "Any time for fun", etc. these are things that appeared in the closed-down "Off-topic". Eddy is right when he says that people have to stick to the ball and write about all topics related to and not related "outside" this board. If you start to address things "outside" this board, you are calling these things out over your own  head. Now I see for the first time how dificult it really is to stay on-topic. It is an art for some, and a second nature for others.

greets,

polonus

Well perhaps the title should be changed to General, 'Topics about the forums, computer and security related issues.'

In the past this forum did generally (no pun intended) fall into this category and anything wildly different went to the Off-topic forum. That is no more and there are alternatives as previously mentioned.

There are two moderators from Alwil who can and do moderate this forum and they I'm sure can see the direction it is going and will act as they see fit. Yes there are things that don't fit the 'anything and everything about this board,' but that has certainly always been the case since I've been a forum member. Heck we even have stickies on the forum that are unrelated the 'anything and everything about this board,' guide lines.

Don't get me wrong, I don't want to see it develop into a full blown off-topic replacement, otherwise it would be likely that it could be closed by those who have that responsibility/authority, but I feel it does need a little room to breath. There would be no requirement or responsibility to have a question answered by the Alwil team, other than for the questions about the boards. Questions would continue to be answered just as they have in the past by forum members and by the Alwil team.

Lets not have this develop into a personal issue, because that would only give more weight to the subject title. We should be able discus this everyone has the right to raise a topic, especially as it does relate to the categorisation of the General forum.

So my vote goes to a change in title with a little scope to breath.

I think your spot on David.
This site is a "Support Forum" for Alwill Avast! related problems. Each product has its own sub-Forum where matters of a specific product related issue can be addressed, and support given.
The Alwil team run this site , and have categorised each forum as they see fit to offer a perspective pertaining to how they would like the overall "Ambience" of the site.
Each of us come here for our own reasons, either to learn or offer help to others ; I'm not a long term member, and I learn a lot coming here.
Avast! Anti-virus is a software program and it has it's compatibilities with some programs, and incompatibility with others. I find the unspecific "General Forum" a good place to discuss matters of suitability of Avast! with other Anti-Virus programs and utilities, and operating systems. Also when people have been on a Forum they tend to bond and it's useful to have somewher to be flexible and express themselves. I remember recently Vic showing photos of a get together with the AVG team, and I felt it was great that He had the oppurtunity to share His experience with  us.
There's a lot of bitching about what goes on in these General Forum's. The Off Topic has closed, due to whatever reasons, but I feel in myself that the more Technically inclined people should excercise their right to not enter the General Forum if they don't like it. They have their specific  interests here, and I don't want to offend anyone, just make this place more productive.
Talk of ; "What would the other Anti-spyware forums think of us " , is so off the mark. I don't think they would bother reading anything except what is of interest to them, and I believe members here should do the same .
The Alwil Moderators are here to oversee that Forum rules are adhered to ,...so let it be .
