Problem with game access
« on: October 29, 2005, 09:51:04 PM »
When I try to access a certain game I get the message:

aswMonVo.dll failed to start

Options are to (1) quit the application or (2) ignor.

If I choose option (2) Ignor, the game opens and plays normally.

Where can I find a corrected copy of the dll?

Thanks,

Merle

Where can I find a corrected copy of the dll?
Which is your Windows? 98, Me, XP?
Do you use any other antivirus in your computer?

Can you try to repair your installation?
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove. Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair). You must be connected to the internet while repairing.

If this does not help, can you uninstall / boot / install / boot again?

What is the game? - is it an on-line game?

Are you sure this is an avast file as I can't find it in my Alwil Software or sub folders.

Can you do a search of your system and find this file, what is its location?
Can you scan it with avast and if nothing found, check the offending/suspect file at: Jotti - Multi engine on-line virus scanner or VirusTotal - Multi engine on-line virus scanner

Using WINXP Home edition.

It is an old game that I have selected XP to run as compatible with WIN98.

The .dll file mentioned is in my AVAST directory, however that file is in the C: drive and the error points to my F drive.

I'm not going to worry about it since the fixing might do more harm than keeping it and choosing ignor.

Just thought it might be a problem for others and a fix would be appropriate.

In fact the most similar file is aswMonVD.dll for me.
It's and old dll from March 5th while the others are new ones.
It's only 4 kb.

Are you sure that repairing avast! installation won't solve this?

Yes I've got aswMonVD.dll and I agree that a repair or uninstall, boot, install should resolve it.
