Downgrading from windows 10 to windows 8.1
« on: August 01, 2015, 03:28:01 AM »
Hi

I just updated to windows 10 but for other reasons I decided to downgrade to 8.1, so the screen said "we are now downgrading you" so I left it for some time but nothing it was blank so I decided to force shut down and turn it on again. It then comes up with avast grimefighter and says we are sedating your pc and once the bar loads it goes blank again and nothing happens. The thing that scares me the most is that I didn't pay for this service so how did I get it also I have got recovery disks but there I really important files I need.

Please help I just want to downgrade to windows 8.1 nothing else

At first, strange you decided to downgrade. I have already removed all files required for downgrade :D Secondly, I think it was a big mistake to force shout down. Because downgrade process takes even more time than upgrade was and now I think you have killed your Windows completely. Try to boot to safe mode at first, if it is not working too... I am not sure but maybe only fresh Windows 8 setup from installation DVD or USB will help you now...

Ok I now know I'm an idiot
I don't even know why I even tried to downgrade but
Like you said I tried to boot into safe mode by pressing  F8 on boot and avast grimefighter came up but now these numbers and letters come up with 6 characters ( image attached) then I force shutdown and I tried holding down F12 but the same thing then I force shutdown and hold down F11 and the 6 characters are repeated 4 times (image attached)

What does this mean?

Also how did I get avast grimefighter for free if it's a paid service

To each their own. Windows 10 for me is unstable for general use. I ended up destroying my version, and well. In the process of reinstalling from a Disc :D

I'm confused, first the OP is explaining downgrade issue from w10 and then Grimefighter comes into the discussion.
What has GrimeFighter got to do with this ???

Well when I was downgrading it said " we are now downgrading you" but I force shutdown and when I turnt my laptop on it starts up with grimefighter saying "we are now sedating your pc " but what confuses me is that grimefighter is a paid service and I didn't pay for it so why is it coming up when I start up my laptop

Downgrading isn't hard if done correctly and if you allow your computer to complete the operation:
https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=93544.msg1238007#msg1238007
The key is patience. It takes a while to complete it's task.
If you broke the tool by interrupting it, you may now need to do a clean install of your old OS or install the last image you created.
